Teaching Philosophy and Diversity Statement 2025

My name is Angelina DeDominicis and my teaching philosophy is focused on inspiring creativity in students of all ages. Schools focus too much on memorizing things, which takes away the essential skill of being creative. My goal is to bring creativity back into the classroom and help students use that creativity outside of the art classroom.

Ever since kindergarten, I knew I wanted to be an art teacher. The thought of helping students learn and explore different artistic mediums and techniques intrigued me to allow students to play and experiment while using creativity skills. I hope to enable students to express themselves in the art classroom by allowing a choice of projects given and ensuring they feel safe and welcome right when they walk through the door. To make sure students feel safe and welcome in the classroom, I hope to allow students to have access to a diverse range of artists and mediums to inspire their work as rising artists. As an art educator, I hope to show my students different artists from all over the world, both past and present. This allows students to see artists who are like themselves to gain inspiration and form a positive impact on the art world in their everyday lives.

Students also learn best in a space where they can experiment, play, and explore different mediums and techniques. Allowing students to make artistic mistakes and make their own choices in their

In my teaching practice, I plan to show my commitment to and responsibility for equity and diversity by encouraging and fostering the success of all students in the classroom, regardless of their gender, race, culture, etc. All students need to be heard. To make sure all students are listened to in the art classroom, I hope to dig into culturally responsive teaching practices by designing different lessons that relate to a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, interests, and experiences. I also hope to adapt to certain areas of teaching for students who may need it.

Overall, as a future art educator, I plan to adapt my teaching per student to allow a successful impact of creativity among all students. I believe that creativity is an essential skill for everyone to possess, but the means of being practiced aren't so often. To allow growth and encourage an artistic mindset, I will allow students to be able to express themselves through their artwork and make the art classroom a fun place to be.
